It’s the very best of bluegrass, and Americana roots on one stage for one very special evening as Hot Rize reunites! PLUS a special set of duets featuring Del McCoury and the dawg himself, David Grisman.
Hot Rize, featuring their tight-as-a-drum ensemble playing paired with their dynamic stage presence has made them the stars of the bluegrass world for the past 30 years. With original members, Tim O’Brien (vocals, mandolin, fiddle), Pete Wernick (banjo, vocals), Nick Forster (guitar, bass guitar, vocals) plus guitarist Bryan Sutton, who took the place of the fourth founding member, Charles Sawtelle, Hot Rize continues to blaze trails and knock socks off to this day. From frequent appearances on “Prairie Home Companion” coupled with their soulful and strong interpretation of conventions has them straddling the divide between progressive traditional bluegrass band.
For more than fifty years, Del McCoury’s music has defined authenticity for hard core bluegrass fans as well as a growing number of fans among those only vaguely familiar with the genre. McCoury is something special, a living link to the days when bluegrass was made only in hillbilly honkytonks, schoolhouse shows and on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, yet also a commandingly vital presence today shattering preconceptions of sound, age and limits of an instrument and genre. Del is joined by his personal and musical friend, the incomparable David Grisman.
David Grisman has always been a pioneer. For over 45 years, the mandolinist and composer has been busy creating “dawg” music, a blend of so many stylistic influences and so unique, it needed its own name. He’s inspired a whole new genre of acoustic string instrumental music with style and virtuosity, while creating a unique niche for himself in the world of contemporary music. His discography is filled with notable artists including Sam Bush, Jerry Garcia, the Grateful Dead, Stephane Grappelli, Emmylou Harris, Chris Isaak, Del McCoury, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Earl Scruggs, Martin Taylor, James Taylor and Doc Watson.
He has deeply influenced several generations of musicians through his own musical explorations, and helped make artist-owned independent labels a viable force in the modern music business.
